Bristol Rovers won on the away goals rule. 2-2 on aggregate. After extra time. Shortly after Bristol Rovers' opening game of the season against Orient on 16 August 1980, a fire took hold in the South Stand of their Eastville Stadium home, destroying the stand which contained the club offices and changing rooms. As a result, their next five home matches (three in the league and two in the League Cup) were played at Bristol City's Ashton Gate.
