Comments:

Barcelona became the first club to reach the Quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League in eight consecutive seasons. It was the 11th season in a row that they had reached the last 16. They had now won 17 of their last 18 games in all competitions. This was their 100th Champions League game at Nou Camp. Barca had now lost only two of the 30 home games they had played against English opposition in European competitions (won 17). Goalscorer Ivan Rakitic was in the Schalke 04 side beaten 2-0 at home by Manchester City in the UEFA Cup group stage in November 2008.

Comments:

This was Manchester City's 100th game in European competitions. This was the second season in a row that they had been eliminated at the Round of 16 stage of the UEFA Champions League by Barcelona. Sergio Aguero's 78th minute penalty was saved. It was the first spot-kick City had failed to convert in the Champions League at the ninth attempt. Despite lying second in the Premier League, City had now lost four of their last five games (all competitions). They had now lost six of the 14 games they had played in 2015 (won five). It was Frank Lampard's 52nd appearance in the knockout rounds of the Champions League; more than any other player.
