Comments:

League position: 14th Aston Villa had not beaten West Ham United or scored a goal in the previous three meetings (all Premier League; one draw and two defeats). Villa had now won two consecutive Premier League home games for the first time since March 2014 when they beat Norwich City and Chelsea. However, they failed in their attempt to score three or more goals in three successive home matches for the first time since October 1980.

Comments:

League position: 10th West Ham United had still to win consecutive Premier League games since the first week of December 2014. The Hammers had now gone 11 Premier League away matches without a win (five draws and six defeats). West Ham United had now scored just four goals in their last nine games (all Premier League).
