Comments:

League position: 20th This was manager Remi Garde's first game in charge of Aston Villa. He became the sixth Frenchman to take charge of a Premier League club: Arsene Wenger (Arsenal), Gerard Houllier (Liverpool and Aston Villa), Jean Tigana (Fulham), Jacques Santini (Tottenham Hotspur) and Alain Perrin (Portsmouth). With this draw, Villa avoided becoming the first club since Newcastle United in 1977-78 to lose ten of their opening 12 games in a top division season. It also ended their worst league run since the club's record 11 defeats in a row from March to May in 1963.
