Final league position 2014-15: 17th Victory would have given Aston Villa three successive home victories in the Premier League. It's a feat they last achieved during a four match winning streak between August and October 2007. This was their final game of 2014-15 and Villa’s total of 38 points equalled the club’s Premier League record for fewest points in a season. It's a tally they also achieved in 2011-12 and 2013-14. They finished the season in 17th place, their lowest finish since 1994-95 (18th) and their lowest in a 38-game season since 1990-91 (17th). Aston Villa had now lost two consecutive matches in preparation of their FA Cup Final appearance against holders Arsenal the following week. Villa scored 31 league goals this season, their lowest ever total in a single league season. Their previous record of 36 came in 1969-70 League Division Two relegation campaign. Christian Benteke made his 100th appearance for Aston Villa. Villa were the only team who did not have a goal scored by a substitute in the Premier League in 2014-15.
