The Cherries were now without a win in their last seven league and cup matches (lost six). They had now failed to score in their last two Premier League games having scored in each of the preceding eight.

League position: 17th This was Newcastle United's first away win since a 3-0 success at Hull City in the Premier League on 31 January 2015, so ending a run of 12 away games without a win. They had now kept clean sheets in consecutive Premier League games for the first time since November 2014. In their 12th league game of the season, this was only United's second win. The only occasions they had won only one of their first 12 games in a top division campaign was in 1898-99 and 1968-69. Kevin Mbabu replaced Vurnon Anita in the third minute of added time in the second half.
