![]() Geoff Hurst supporter when, on the afternoon of July 30th 1966, he scored the hat-trick which enabled England to lift the Jules Rimet Trophy for the only time in their history. Ironically, he would not have even played in the match had it not been for an injury to Alf Ramsey's preferred starter, Jimmy Greaves. Hurst spent the vast majority of his playing career wearing the claret and blue of West Ham. He played for the Hammers on over four hundred occasions and netted 180 goals between 1959 and 1972. He later played for Stoke and West Bromwich Albion before retiring in 1976. He was capped a total of 49 times. He received the M.B.E. for services to football in 1979 and was knighted in 1998. He remains a great ambassador for the sport and is a leading light in England's bid to host the 2006 World Cup.
