Arsenal skipper Tony Adams scored both goals in his side's Division One 1-1 draw against Manchester United at Old Trafford. Having headed the Gunners into a lead he sliced the ball into his own net to give United their equaliser.

A long unbeaten sequence for Manchester United was brought to an end by Norwich City when they won 2-1 at Carrow Road. The result led to widespread crowd trouble initiated by United supporters and manager Tommy Docherty called for the reintroduction of the birch to deal with the troublemakers.
