    Bill Hartill, Wolverhampton Wanderers' centre forward, scored all 5 goals against Aston Villa. Began with Wolves in 1929 and to the end of 1934-35 scored 164 goals in 221 matches. The following season he had short spells with Everton and Liverpool before joining Bristol Rovers with whom he ended his League career in 1938 with the final record of 185 goals in 264 games.

    Default 3 September 1964

    Eddie Boot resigned as Huddersfield Town manager and thus ended 27 years association with the club. Made his debut with Sheffield United in 1935 and transferred to Leeds Road in March 1937. Played wing half for the club until 1952 when he was appointed to the coaching staff eventually becoming manager in January 1960. During his playing career he appeared in 346 peace-time League matches.

    Default 3 September 1921

    Arthur Wood made his debut in goal for Clapton Orient against Bury, the first of 228 consecutive League games. A massive man, 6' tall and weighing 14.5 stone, he joined Orient from Southampton in the 1921 close season after two League appearances for that club. Remained with Orient until 1931 and turned out in 374 League matches for them.

    Death of Sam Wadsworth at the age of 64. One of the finest left backs of his era he joined Huddersfield Town in 1921 from Nelson, won a F.A. Cup medal in 1922 and Championship medals in 1924-25-26. After 292 League matches for Town he moved to Burnley in 1929 but played in only 7 games in two seasons. For many years before his death he coached in Holland. Seven caps for England 1922-27.

    The Scottish League match between Clyde and Aberdeen at Shawfield Stadium became the first game to be televised.
