    successive week; firstly against Sheffield United and then against Aston Villa.

    Norman Bullock made his League debut for Bury in a Second Division game against Nottingham Forest. Probably the club's finest player between the Wars, he played for them until 1935, firstly as a centre forward and then at centre-half. Appeared in 505 League games and scored 124 goals, including the club record of 31 in 1925-26. Capped by England v Wales 1926 and v Ireland 1927. Later managed Bury, Chesterfield and Leicester City.

    Leeds United registered with the West Riding of Yorks F.A, as an amateur club. They adopted professionalism in 1920 and were elected to the Second Division of the Football League in June of that year.

    George Thompson, Scunthorpe United goalkeeper transferred to Preston North End. The son of a former Southampton goalkeeper and brother to Desmond, a goalkeener with Sheffield United, he began his career with Chesterfield but never appeared in their League side. Had four years as North End's goalie and played for them in the 1954 Cup Final when they were beaten by West Bromwich Albion. Moved to Manchester City in 1956 and Carlisle United a year later. Gave up the first class game in 1962 after playing in 436 League games.
