    In order to remain solvent Huddersfield Town sold their England centre-forward Jack Cock to Chelsea for 2,000. He had joined Huddersfield just before the Great War during which he was awarded the Military Medal. From Chelsea he moved to Everton in November 1923, then to Plymouth Argyle in 1925 and lastly to Millwall in December 1927. He played 381 league matches scoring 230 goals. He also won two England Caps in the 1919-1920 season.

    All league matches in Lancashire were played in a tremendous gale. At Blackpool four Chelsea players retired through exhaustion(Billy Ferguson, Eric Oakton, Peter O'Dowd, Harold Miller and Les Allum) leaving them to finish the match with 8 players. Chelsea lost the match 4-0. At Blackburn three Sheffield United players retired for the same reason, United losing the match 3-0.

    King Gearge V attended the Second Division match between Norwich City and Millwall. The London side won through goals from Brolly and Barker.

    Default 29 October 1898

    Sheffield United goalkeeper William "Fatty" Foulke stood Liverpool centre-forward George Allen on his head during a match at Anfield. A penalty was awarded against him !.
