Stan, a goalkeeper, saw service with Dumbarton after the war and then joined Clyde where he played in the Scottish Cup final against Rangers at Hampden in April 1949. Unfortunately he was on the wrong end of a 1-4 defeat. That summer he signed for Queens Park Rangers for whom he played 48 League games during his five seasons with them.
He then had a period in English non-League football before returning to Scotland and spells with Berwick Rangers, Third Lanark, Montrose and Stenhousemuir.
He took up bowls and was a much respected player and official in that sport.
