FIFA World Cup, 1930

The staging of first World Cup was annnounced by FIFA president Jules Rimet on 26 May 1928 at FIFA's Amsterdam conference.

Uruguay was favorite to host the tournment and the other nations who had lodged applications (Italy, Sweden, the Netherlands and Spain) withdrew their bids prior to Uruguay being chosen in 1929.
