    by , 14th February 2012 at 07:39 PM (11v11 blog)
The 11v11 goal of the week was scored by Yakubu for Blackburn Rovers against Queens Park Rangers.
    • Along with Wolverhampton Wanderers’ heavy defeat to West Bromwich Albion, the win against fellow strugglers Queens Park Rangers lifted Rovers out of the bottom three, but where would they be without their leading scorer?
    • On his return from a three-match ban, Yakubu’s 15th minute opener took his season total to 14 goals.
    • Taking control of Steven Nzonzi’s flick-on with an amazingly deft touch for such a big man, surrounded by QPR defenders, the former Everton hitman spun and fired a right-foot shot into the bottom corner.
    • Worth his considerable weight in gold to Rovers’ worrying cause, manager Steve Kean was fully of praise for his burly striker:

  2. Premier League Performance of the Week: Blackburn Rovers

    by , 5th January 2012 at 10:50 PM (11v11 blog)
Our Premier League Performance of the Week goes to Blackburn Rovers for their New Year’s Eve win at Manchester United.
    - The scene seemed perfectly set at Old Trafford for United to celebrate manager Sir Alex Ferguson’s 70th birthday as, if defeat was avoided, they would return to the top of the Premier League.
    - With 11 defeats in the 18 league games in 2011-12, it also seemed like the old year would end in familiar fashion for crisis-club Rovers.
    - Having amazingly led 2-0, another familiar pattern appeared to emerge as United drew level after 62 minutes.
    - However, against the odds, Steve Kean’s team pulled off arguably the biggest shock win in Premier League history with youngster Grant Hanley’s first senior goal.
    - According to the bookies, Rovers ...

This week's performance of the week goes to Yakubu Aigegbeni for his four goals for Blackburn Rovers in the 4-2 win against Swansea City.
    - With the the backdrop of the on-going protests against the club’s owners and management, Yakubu’s four goals earned Blackburn Rovers a crucial win against Swansea City at Ewood Park.

    - The hostile atmosphere continued even after his first goal as there were audible jeers from the home crowd when the former Everton striker celebrated the opener with boss Steve Kean.

    - The Rovers fans may have been more forgiving if they had known that it was the 30th time that Yakubu has scored the opening goal in a Premier League game and hasn’t been on the losing side in any of them.

This week's performance of the week goes to Blackburn Rovers for their 3-3 draw at Wigan Athletic

    - On the first anniversary of Venky’s takeover of the club, Rovers faced a must-not-lose game at fellow strugglers Wigan Athletic in a Lancashire derby.

    - The game was played amid the growing unrest of disillusioned Rovers supporters unhappy with the owners and manager Steve Kean.

    - Blackburn opened the scoring with Yakubu’s 100th goal in English league football.

    - Wigan led 2-1 at the interval and Blackburn’s mood deepened as the owners failed to re-appear in the directors box after half-time and influential midfielder David Dunn was sent-off shortly after the re-start.
    - Rovers were level on the hour after ...
