  6. Gerrard's glory night

    by , 14th March 2012 at 01:52 PM (11v11 blog)
Not that it was needed, but Steven Gerrard enhanced his reputation as a Liverpool legend with his hat-trick in last night's Mersey derby victory against Everton at Anfield.
The 31 year-old marked David Moyes’ tenth anniversary as Everton manager by becoming the first player to score three goals in this fixture since Ian Rush hit four at Goodison Park in November 1982.
Steven is only the fifth Liverpool player to notch a Mersey derby hat-trick at Anfield. The most recent came from Fred Howe in September 1935.
Only Ian Rush has scored more Reds goals (19) against the Toffees than Steven's eight. He shares second position with Harry Chambers and Jack Parkinson.
It all came on the night that he became the 25th player to reach the 400 appearances mark in the Premier League. ...

  9. Arsenal the first team to win 4 in a row from a losing position in the Premier League

    by , 12th March 2012 at 10:39 PM (11v11 blog)
Arsenal's 2-1 victory against Newcastle United puts the team into the record books as the first team to win four games in a row in the Premier League from a losing position.

The run began with a 90th minute winner from Thierry Henry after the Gunners had fallen behind to Sunderland, continued through the 5-2 victory against Spurs, a 90th minute winner by Robin Van Persie at Anfield and was capped by a last minute goal against Newcastle by central defender Thomas Vermaelen.

Arsenal are now just a singe point behind Tottenham and look a good bet to claim third place, as man-of-the match Theo Walcott opined:

"The way you finish, that's what's important."
