Harry for England!
Premier League performance of the week goes to Harry Redknapp of Tottenham (hopefully soon England.)
The Spurs boss woke up on Wednesday morning with the possibility of ending the day in prison. Instead, he went to his bed dreaming of becoming England’s next manager.
Harry was cleared of two charges of evading tax after a 13-day trial before being installed as odds-on favourite to replace Fabio Capello as England boss following the Italian’s shock resignation.
The week ended with a resounding 5-0 win against Newcastle United that keeps Spurs on track for a Champions League place and maintains the possibility of their first title since 1961. And to continue Harry’s magic touch in the transfer market, the five-goal salvo included a brace from new signing Louis Saha.
On a bitterly cold night at White Hart Lane, the home crowd repeatedly chanted Redknapp's name, singing “We want you to stay”.
Whether he will be joining his old West Ham team mate Trevor Brooking at the FA has yet to be seen, as Harry now has time to reflect on the week of his life:
“It was the most difficult week I've ever had.
“I wouldn't want to put anybody through what I've been through, for sure... what it did to me and what it has done to my family, well that was worse.
“But it's behind us now and the week has turned out well. We've had a win so it has turned out a good week in the end.
“They [the Tottenham fans] have been brilliant with me. They were fantastic at our last game against Wigan, and they were great today. I appreciate their support I really do.
“I am totally focused on what I am doing here. It would not be fair on Tottenham, the players or the crowd, if I wasn't. We want Champions League football again.”
