1932 Fulham beat Thames by 8-0 to inflict the latter's record defeat in their two-year membership of the Third Division. The club was formed in 1927 as Thames Association and was elected to the Southern League (East) in 1928. They were elected to the Football League in 1930 in place of Merthyr Town and finished 20th in the Southern Section in their first season with 34 points. The following season they were bottom with only 23 points and did not seek re-election. The club subsequently became defunct. Thames played at West Ham Stadium (not Upton Park) and wore red and blue quartered colours. Some famous players ended their careers with them notably Len Davies, Jimmy Dimmock and Moses Russell.
1961 Ted Fenton was appointed manager of Southend United. He had joined West Ham United as an inside-forward in 1932 but made his name as a half-back eventually touring South Africa with the FA party in 1939. By the outbreak of the Second War he had played in 168 League games for the Hammers and although he played in unofficial internationals during hostilities he never returned to League football as a player afterwards opting instead to become player-manager to Colchester United. Captained the Southern League side when they reached the Fifth Round of the FA Cup in 1948. In 1950 he returned to Upton Park as assistant to Charlie Paynter and took over in 1951 guiding the club back to the First Division in 1959. Thus it was something of a shock when he left West Ham and took the Southend job. However the move never really worked and he was sacked at the end of the 1964-65 season. Became a licensee and ran a sports shop in Brentwood before retiring to the Gloucestershire countryside.
1981 Second Division player-managers Howard Kendall of Blackburn Rovers and Graham Turner of Shrewsbury Town both appeared in their 600th League game.
