On this day in football history

1885 Bury Football Club was founded. They were elected to the Second Division of the Football League in 1894 and were champions in their first season. By defeating Liverpool 1-0 in the "Test Match" they gained promotion to the First Division.
1915 Third and last time that the FA Cup Final was played outside London. Sheffield United beat Chelsea 3-0 at Old Trafford.
1929 Bob Suter played in goal for Halifax Town at the age of 50 years and 9 months against Darlington in the Third Division North. NB: In 1947 Neil McBain appeared in goal for New Brighton when he was over 52 years old.
1932 Bolton Wanderers gave free transfers to three of the side who played in the club's Cup winning sides of 1923, 1926 and 1929. Jimmy Seddon joined in 1912 and played 331 League games, was captain in 1927 and played for England six times. Harry Nuttall signed in 1923 and made 287 appearances (3 England caps). Dick Haworth made 322 League appearances from 1922.
1948 Manchester United beat Blackpool 4-2 in the FA Cup Final at Wembley.
1959 Bill Lambton resigned as manager of Scunthorpe and Lindsey United after just three days in the job.
1974 Arsenal beat Liverpool 1-0 at Anfield which means Leeds United are Champions for the second time.
1976 Mark Heeley (16years, 229 days) became Peterborough United's youngest player.
1988 Luton Town beat Arsenal in the Littlewoods Cup Final 3-2. The trophy breaks into two in the celebrations that follow.
1991 Manchester United become the first English team to reach a European Final since UEFA lifted the ban on English teams. They reach the Cup Winners Cup Final after beating Legia Warsaw 4-2 on aggregate.
