- 1984 The FA agreed to allow sponsor's names to appear on player's shirts for the forthcoming FA Cup Final.
- 1986 Aberdeen went out of the European Cup, having creditably reached the quarter-final stage, when they played out a goalless draw against IFK Gothenburg in Sweden. Gothenburg had drawn 2-2 at Pittodrie and therefore progressed to the semi-finals on the away goal rule.
- 1995 Notts County lifted the Anglo-Italian Cup after beating Ascoli 2-1 at Wembley. Agana and White scored for County while Ascoli's goal came from Mirabelli.
